Back before we have science fiction publications and “zines” there were these little things called “pulp books” that were sold on the street corner. Printed on cheap, pulp paper (hence their name), pulp novels were handy little pocket-sized books you could carry around with you. Back in those days, science fiction was kind of a niche market and there was no real way to track down stories of that kind because libraries weren’t stocked and there was no internet. Nowadays, however, science fiction has really taken on a life of its own and you can find just about anything on television, the internet and bookstores to cater to your love of all things space, alien or what have you. There are even quite a few modern science fiction publications on the market in the same vein as the old pulp novels. Things like Analog and Asimov’s Science Fiction all follow the tradition established by their earlier counterparts in providing readers and cheap and easy to carry escape into the unknown with stories about far off futures and distant planets. You can find these in most major booksellers and you really ought to check them out.
I enjoy reading magazines, but getting them in the mail creates so much waste. Now you can read them online with nothing to recycle or throw away.
